Red onions (also recognized as red or blue onions in some mainland European countries, although no longer the UK) are cultivars of the onion (Allium cepa), and have purplish-red pores and skin and white flesh tinged with red. They are most in many instances used in cooking, however the pores and skin has additionally been used as a dye.
